Afterward, we'll head to Urubamba, where we'll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch combining the best of Peruvian and Andean cuisine. After lunch, we'll head to the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site, formerly an Inca tambo and the starting point for Machu Picchu. Here, we'll immerse ourselves in history by exploring its iconic stone terraces, the Temple of the Sun, and the Princess Baths fountain.
Overnight in Ollantaytambo, considered the last surviving Inca village.
Meals: Breakfast at a hotel in Cusco; Lunch in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Very early in the morning, we'll pick you up from your hotel on our bus, which will take us to kilometer 82. The trip will take approximately 2 hours. Here, the entire team of professionals will be waiting for us to make your trip a pleasant one. After a brief briefing, we'll begin the hike. This first route is very peaceful, with beautiful views of Verónica Mountain. We'll walk along the Vilcanota River until we reach the Llactapata Archaeological Complex, where we'll have lunch. We'll then continue to our first campsite in Huayllabamba, where we'll spend the night after a restorative dinner.
After breakfast, we begin the most difficult but not impossible part of the hike. During this stretch, we will walk to the highest point of the Inca Trail, where you will have an incredible panoramic view and will be able to observe the different altitude levels that exist in the area. After 3 hours of hiking, we will pass the pass called Warmiwañiusca or Dead Woman, which is approximately 4,200 meters above sea level. Here, you will have the enormous satisfaction of having reached the highest point of the entire Inca Trail. After this exhausting but fabulous experience, we will have lunch and then continue our hike, descending until we reach Pacaymayo, where we will have dinner and spend the night.
After breakfast, we begin our hike to ascend the second most important pass on the Inca Trail, located at 3,850 meters above sea level. We will reach the Runkarakay archaeological complex, where we will have a guided tour of the entire complex as well as the Sayacmarca citadel. After the guided tour, we will continue hiking until we reach the Puyupatamarca archaeological complex, another important monument, where we will have lunch. After a short rest, we will continue our hike until we reach the last camp, Wiñay Huayna (Forever Young), where we will have a guided tour of the impressive archaeological complex. After the guided tour, we will have dinner and spend the last night.
After breakfast, we continue our hike very early to arrive on time to appreciate the sunrise at Machu Picchu. After an hour of hiking, we will pass through Intipunku, or the Sun Gate, the entrance to Machu Picchu. From here, you will enjoy the most impressive panoramic view of the entire citadel. We will then spend approximately three hours exploring the surrounding areas of the Inca citadel, visiting the main sites such as the enclosures, plazas, sacred fountains, temples, and the agricultural and urban areas. After our guided tour, you will have some free time to take photos. After a break, we will meet up with the rest of the group to board the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes and head to the train station to return to Cusco.
